Everyone, and I mean everyone, visits the Butchart Gardens when in Victoria.
I waited until the very end of my six weeks here, but it is the first stop for many others.
One ticket costs almost $34, but you can get an unlimited annual pass for $58. If you live here or are staying for an extended time, get the pass.
Six nights a week, they have free concerts, which I can hear from my patio.
Every Saturday, they shoot off fireworks, which I can also hear from my patio. I am behind the trees about 5 miles away, but the sound carries as they are located on the cove at the base of very steep hills.
The Butcharts originally settled in this spot to quarry limestone to create Portland cement for the western US and Canada. When the limestone was depleted Mrs. Butchart had the idea to create gardens in the abandoned quarry.
The gardens are still privately owned and maintained by the great grandchildren of the original Butcharts.
Their original home now contains a very fine restaurant, Which I enjoyed almost as much as the gardens.
There are so many photo opportunities, it is impossible to stop taking photos.
After deleting many, it is too difficult to delete any more.
Enjoy the following or look on line for more professional photographs.
Or - just decide you have had enough.
Whatever you do -= "Enjoy," as they say.
